Dear readers,
We are delighted to welcome you to the first THOR newsletter for 2024.
The THOR project, which started 9 months ago, is funded under the Horizon Europe program. The project has 9 partners from 6 countries, including large companies, laboratories, technological centres, and academia. Its objective is to revolutionise battery design by creating a virtual tool, a digital twin .
This tool can reduce the number of physical tests required for the development of batteries. Various usage conditions will be considered. The project will use an interdisciplinary approach that involves experts in modelling and experimentation. They will develop three independent physics-based performance, lifetime, and safety models.
To achieve this goal, we will strive to enhance processes and integrate challenging technologies to make them more attractive to younger researchers. During the first few months, we have been focusing on establishing the project’s main steps. So far, we expect to see the first interesting results by the end of this year.
In the coming months, THOR will approach initiatives and networks active on the European scene, such as Batteries Europe, Batteries European Partnership Association (BEPA), LiPlanet , and Battery 2023+, to share their mission and goals. Together with THOR, we want to attract interest and engagement in our shared mission. THOR will contribute to the growth of the battery sector with an eye with an eye on decarbonisation and ecological transition.
